Trauma doesn’t always look the same. For some, it stems from a single, life-altering event; an accident, an assault, a loss. For others, it builds over time through repeated emotional wounds, childhood neglect, or chronic stress in unsafe environments. This is often referred to as complex trauma. And in today’s world, many also carry the weight of collective trauma, from cultural oppression, war, or global crises that impact entire communities.
No matter its form, trauma can leave you feeling disconnected, anxious, and unsure of how to feel safe in your body or relationships again.
At Karima Mental Health Services, we understand the many faces of trauma. Whether your pain is rooted in a specific moment or a series of life experiences, we provide trauma-informed, compassionate care to help you process the past, reclaim your present, and build a more grounded future.
Trauma is not defined by the event itself, but by how your mind and body experienced it. Whether it stems from childhood, relationships, military service, or cultural identity, unresolved trauma can lead to symptoms like emotional numbness, hypervigilance, anxiety, nightmares, flashbacks, or difficulty connecting with others.
PTSD and complex trauma can make you feel stuck in survival mode. At Karima Mental Health Services, we approach trauma gently, helping you understand your story, regulate your nervous system, and safely process what’s been too heavy to hold alone.
Complex trauma often results from repeated relational harm, like neglect, abuse, or abandonment over time. You may find it difficult to trust others, regulate emotions, or feel safe in your own body.
Unmet emotional needs in childhood, like lack of nurturing, validation, or safety can deeply impact adult relationships and self-esteem. You may feel unworthy, disconnected, or unsure how to handle strong emotions.
This form of trauma is passed down through generations, often tied to systemic oppression, cultural assimilation, or historical injustice. You may carry a deep sense of grief, disconnection, or struggle with identity and belonging.
Combat-related trauma can stem from life-threatening experiences, witnessing violence, or being in active duty zones. You may experience flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, or difficulty adjusting to civilian life.
Military trauma isn’t limited to combat, it can also include moral injury, loss of fellow service members, or institutional betrayal. You may struggle with guilt, isolation, or feeling misunderstood outside of the military community.
At Karima Mental Health Services we provide a safe and confidential environment where individuals can explore their past experiences, emotions, and challenges with the guidance of an experienced therapist.
